Damper Pty Ltd (ACN 701 116 369) builds Damper, a meeting assistant for macOS. This policy explains what Damper collects, where it is stored, who else sees it, and how you can get it back or delete it.
In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Damper Pty Ltd. "Damper" means the macOS app and the service behind it.
The short version
- No bot joins your meetings. Damper records audio on your Mac. Nothing joins your call or appears in the participant list.
- Meeting audio is deleted after transcription. We do not keep recordings.
- Your notes are stored in your Damper account so they appear on any Mac you sign in to, with a copy kept on your Mac.
- Your meetings stay in your account so Damper can carry context between them. Your notes and transcripts may also help improve Damper — you can turn that off in Settings.
- You own your content. We don't claim ownership of your meetings, notes or transcripts.
What we collect
Account information
When you create an account we collect your email address, and your name and profile details if you sign in with Google. We use this to identify your account and to contact you about the service.
Meeting content
When you record a meeting, Damper stores in your account:
- The meeting title, start and end time, and meeting type
- Attendee names and email addresses, where a calendar event is attached
- The notes Damper writes, and any notes you type yourself
- A readable transcript of what was said
Your calendar
Damper only accesses the calendar information needed to support meeting features. Damper does not modify your calendar. Only meetings you actually record reach your account.
If you connect Google or Microsoft, Damper reads that calendar using read-only access. Damper never writes to your calendar.
Audio
Damper records your microphone and your Mac's system audio while you are recording. Audio is sent to our transcription provider, transcribed, and then deleted. We do not store meeting audio.
Usage information
We collect basic information about how the app and website are used, such as app version, download events, and error reports, so we can fix problems and understand what to build next.
Who else handles your data
Damper uses service providers to operate the product, including for transcription, note generation, hosting, storage and sign-in. We share information with these providers only as needed to provide the service.
Google user data
If you sign in with Google or connect Google Calendar, Damper receives your name, email address, profile picture, and read-only calendar information. Your calendar is never uploaded. For meetings you record, the meeting title and attendee list are saved with that meeting and shared with these providers so Damper can produce your notes: Deepgram, which transcribes your meeting audio and uses attendee and company names as spelling hints; Anthropic, which generates your notes from the transcript and meeting details; and Cloudflare, which hosts your Damper account. We share only what each provider needs to do its part.
Limited Use
Damper's use of information received from Google Workspace APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data, and anything derived from it, is never used to develop, train, or improve generalised artificial intelligence or machine learning models. Our providers are engaged on terms that prohibit training their models on your data.
Improving Damper's AI
Content stored in your Damper account — your notes and transcripts — may be used to improve Damper: how it writes, how it retrieves, and how well it works for you. This is on by default.
You can turn this off at any time in Damper under Settings.
Information obtained from Google Workspace APIs is excluded from this, whether or not the setting is on.
People in your meetings other than you have not agreed to this. Please consider that before recording sensitive conversations.
Recording other people
Damper records conversations that include other people. Laws about recording conversations differ between Australian states and between countries, and it is your responsibility to follow the ones that apply to you.
Damper reminds you when you start recording and can add a line to calendar invites you organise. These are tools to help you do the right thing. They are not consent on anyone's behalf, and using them does not mean the other people in your meeting have agreed to be recorded.
Where your data is stored
Damper is an Australian company. Some of our service providers operate outside Australia, which means your information may be processed or stored overseas.
Data travels over encrypted connections.
How long we keep it
- Meeting audio — deleted after transcription, every meeting.
- Notes and transcripts — kept in your account so Damper can carry context between your meetings. They stay until you delete them.
- Account information — kept while your account is open.
When you delete a meeting in Damper, it is marked deleted and stops appearing in the app. Complete removal from our systems is not automated yet — contact us if you need it.
Your choices
- Access — ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to fix anything that is wrong.
- Deletion — delete individual meetings in the app. For account closure or complete removal, contact us.
- Control how Damper improves — turn off product improvement in Damper under Settings, at any time.
- Complain — if you think we have mishandled your information, contact us first. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
To make any of these requests, email privacy@damperapp.com.
Security
We protect your data with encrypted connections, access controls on our systems, and by keeping meeting audio only as long as transcription takes. No service can promise perfect security, and we will tell you promptly if a breach affects your information.
Children
Damper is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that materially affects you, we will tell you by email or in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
